Hinckley is harmless and should be released, lawyer says

Washington ((CNN)) -trial continued Thursday to determine the future of John Hinckley Jr., who shot President Ronald Reagan and three others on March 20, 1981.

On Sunday and half court, federal judge will decide whether Hinckley should eventually was released from a mental hospital, where he had been a patient since his 1981 trial. The trial ended with the jury’s verdict was not guilty by reason of insanity.

On Wednesday, lawyer Hinckley’s said he was not dangerous and would eventually be released. But Prosecutors fight it, said Hinckley was deceptive about activity while on a visit to his mother in Williamsburg, Virginia.

In opening remarks, Prosecutor Sarah Chasson said Secret Service agents would testify they conduct surveillance on Hinckley without knowledge earlier this year when he allowed what was ordered was unsupervised free time in Williamsburg.

On several occasions in July and September, Hinckley was supposed to go to the movies or shopping but went to the bookstore where he saw the books about Ronald Reagan and the President of the murderer, Chasson said. Terms of Hinckley’s the program visit this time is that the plan laid out detailing what will he do when on his own and that medical staff and secret service information.
